can anyone tell what to look for to figure out why my cruise control does not work? all fuses are good and light on dash for main button comes on but not on speedo and does not kick in,etc...

Some items to check, broken wire, leaking vacuum line, switch that sets the speed, brake lights, speed sensor, brake switch,   linkage broken.   You might want to get a service manual if you plan to do lots of work on your car,  this will help you do a lot of maintenance to save $$$ and get experience.
