I have a 1999 Honda Accord Coupe with 130,000 miles.  Recently it has started to die intermittantly.  It will run fine for days or weeks and then all of a sudden when I start it and begin to move Ill get down the road a little and it will just die.  I have to let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes and then it will start and run fine.  While it's sitting it will crank strong but won't restart unless it sits a bit.  Any suggestions?

I'm having a similiar problem.  My 1998 Accord with 222k miles will just cut off without warning.  It may be running 70 mph on the interstate or 5 mph in a parking lot.  I can attempt to crank it and it will turn over but won't crank.  Sometimes I have to wait for a couple minutes, and sometimes it will crank immediately.  I know when it will crank because my instrument lights will illuminate.  They go out when it cuts off.   One notable thing is that I have had a leaking radiator for quite some time.  I top it off a couple times a week.  Read somewhere along the way that this could be caused by a coolant temp. sensor.  Any ideas?

Squid,

My neighbor had a similiar problem.  His Accord would cut off, but wouldn't even turn over for about 5-10 minutes.  He replaced his ignition switch and it solved the problem.  That may even be my problem, but I don't have the extra money to just start replacing everything.

Come to think of it.  Isn't there a recall on the ignitions for this model Accord?  It has something to do with the car being able to start in neutral.  Maybe we can get freebie ignitions.  Ah man!  I'll have to clean out my car so I can take it to the mechanic.  haha

<P>I also have a 1999 Accord with 129K on it and the car would randomly die - high outside temp, high humidity.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;On&nbsp\\;5/31/08 I&nbsp\\;replaced the &amp;rsquo;main relay&amp;rsquo; which feeds power to the fuel pump.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; I&amp;rsquo;ll let you know if this fixes it.&nbsp\\; </P>
<P>&nbsp\\;</P>
<P>Cost was about $60 at the dealer, found it on line for $41+shipping and would have had to wait, and about $56 at Autozone - but would have had to order it.&nbsp\\; So for expediency I went to the dealer.</P>
<P>&nbsp\\;</P>
<P>Look online it is in the &amp;quot;cabin control area&amp;rsquo; of many Honda parts sites</P>

thanks for posting the info joed2222,will look forward to hearing about the relay change, if it fixed the dying of the engine. just a note, sometimes there are other items that will cause the relay to cut in and out.

So Far so good!  It''s been a month since I changed the main relay and have not had the stalling and starting problems.  I will keep you posted.
